Customer Story
In the summer of 2010, a virus broke out in the old Meuse hospital, part of Pantein. A quick, decisive approach is desperately needed, and that's how Charles Eringfeld, ICT manager at Pantein, comes into contact with Tesorion for the first time. “We were looking for a party that could quickly get us out of the fire,” he says. “This required an appliance that can detect viruses in no time.” To contain the virus, the hospital uses Tesorion Immunity's detect functionality. “In the end, around forty machines were found to be contaminated. Partly thanks to Tesorion's adequate action, we quickly got the virus outbreak under control.”
Access control
Eringfeld chose Tesorion Immunity because the appliance automatically segments different groups of users based on their rights and privileges. “Of course, we think it is very important that the medical data is properly secured. That's why we attach great importance to a solution where different groups of users get different rights. We are now working in a clientless environment, with access control built into the network. In doing so, we give network administrators more control and control.”

Separating functional groups
Via the switch or access point, Tesorion Immunity ensures that the user automatically enters the correct VLAN. In total, the hospital uses around thirty VLANs. Eringfeld: “The medical staff can be divided into various groups. For example, surgeons have access to almost all medical data. Nursing staff have fewer rights. By dividing users into groups and seeing per group what level of safety is necessary, you achieve the ideal balance between functionality and safety.”
Tight planning
To set up the network and access control, Tesorion worked with both Pantein and BAM Techniek — ICT. “The contact between the three parties was very good. Things could have been even better at the communication level; working together in such a triangle is always challenging. But what was very nice is that Tesorion carried out the schedule very tightly. Everything went as agreed and that was very pleasant.” Eringfeld also praises Tesorion for its knowledge in the field of networks. “It is clearly a spin-off from the University of Twente. Thanks to that expertise, the knowledge of our own staff has also grown. And I suspect that the knowledge of BAM Technology - ICT has also grown as a result.”
Healthcare support
Whether the user is working on a laptop or tablet, logging into medical devices or requesting information via the bedside terminal, he always ends up in a secure environment that is not unnecessarily connected to sensitive information. “And that is essential for us. We have fun gadgets, but they should support healthcare. In my opinion, that has certainly succeeded now.” Eringfeld is now looking at the possibility of rolling out Tesorion Immunity in other divisions of Pantein Zorggroep as well. “In addition to the product, we are also very pleased with the service. Tesorion largely provides monitoring, backups and updates. That all happens in the background, without us noticing it. And, of course, that's a good sign.”
